Peter now has metallic claw-like arms, but their effectiveness is lower than Morales’ abilities. Peter’s combat system changes with the appearance of the symbiote, adding spectacular and dangerous abilities. There are towers, suit collections, hideout searches, time trials, photo sessions, crime fighting, city residents with their quests, and even random events. However, the main task of the city is to serve as a grand backdrop for the plot.

For a smoother and more visually immersive experience, an RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 5700 is recommended. I can’t say that I noticed one dropped frame in my dozens of hours of playing. This allows Spider-Man 2 to shine in its most jaw-dropping moments – of which the main story offers many – as explosive action, sparkling electrical effects, and fittingly slimy symbiote gloop fill the screen.

This time the superheroes must face two primary villains – Kraven the Hunter and Venom. Of course, a hero is nothing without its villains, and Spider-Man’s rogues gallery is almost unparalleled. Outside of the likes of Venom, Kraven, and Lizard seen in the trailers, Insomniac has kept many more cards hidden up its sleeve. I won’t even hint at any of these except to say that Spider-Man 2 opens with a bang, offering up a sense of scale not previously seen in the series. It’s an adrenaline-fuelled reintroduction to the series that tests how well you remember the combat, as well as providing a few new tricks. It’s also the start of one of the new side-story villain threads that are optional, and while those don’t offer anything overly new in terms of gameplay, they do add valuable extra scraps of story.

In its Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC blog post, for instance, Sony highlights, “new raytracing options with individual quality settings to finetune performance and fidelity across a broad range of hardware configurations”. There’s also talk of settings for raytraced interiors, shadows, and ambient occlusion – adding what Sony calls “an additional layer of believability with realistic shadows and increased depth to the game”. The gameplay itself should remain unchanged from the PS5 version, just with more graphic options, and will be better looking for the most part. While the format might be different, this should still be the amazing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 experience we all know and love. Two suits in Spider-Man 2 can be acquired only through the March 7, 2024 DLC, “The Fly N’ Fresh Suit Pack,” which includes the Fly Suit for Peter and the Fresh Suit for Miles.

The Apunkalyptic Suit is a unique design by Jerad Marantz specifically for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The Family Business Suit is based off of the Legacy comic run where Aaron Davis (The Prowler) wore an iteration of the Iron Spider suit and led The Sinister Six. The Upgraded Suit is what Miles will begin the game with, and is an original design by Insomniac.

It’s a great starting point that sends the city’s hero and villain dynamic into flux as he sets his sights on the biggest prey possible. I am directly reviewing this game in comparison to marvels spiderman and the miles morales game only. Everything about this game aside from web wings mechanic was a downgrade. The game should have had coop, switching between miles and peters feels pointless and unless you are doing a specific mission for them switching feels pointless. Very few side quests in the game and the few you do have are fetch quests with no impact to the story.

Sandman is one of the most intimidating villains in the Spider-Man universe, but even he has enemies of his own. Wind Tunnels look like gusts of wind and turn into “green rings” when flying nearby. You must then fly through the green rings to get a speed boost, fly from one Wind Tunnel to the next to stay in midair until you reach Astoria district. The easiest way is to use the wind tunnel north-east of Financial district and the one over the river.

Moving forward, it’s evident Insomniac is ready to shift into a new gear focusing solely on Sony’s latest hardware. The first full-fledged sequel is just around the corner, as the first-party PlayStation studio is close to bringing the Marvel icon’s next story to life. Developer Insomniac Games confirmed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be the latest entry in the series to be making its way to PC all the way back in October 2024, but has remained oddly quiet on the topic ever since. The first game laid the groundwork for how fun swinging as Spider-Man can be. So make sure your reaction time is sharp before you don the super suit. Two missions later, players are treated to the most odd, but also the most heartwarming boss fight of the game, as Mary Jane becomes consumed by the Symbiote and tries to take down Peter. Peter wins the fight as MJ becomes herself again before vowing to help Peter and Miles take down Venom.

We join Miles at this exact point in his life, with family ties straining, friendships facing fresh challenges, and life decisions of genuine importance being posed for the first time. Actor Nadji Jeter displays all the range needed for the role, continuing to excel as a younger Spider-Man maturing before our eyes. He’s in his early twenties so has already navigated the difficult years that Miles finds himself in, but thanks to the symbiote suit, he’s working his way through yet more bodily changes. Primarily a Peter Parker story, Spider-Man 2 explores his relationship with MJ and the reintroduction of childhood best friend Harry Osborne into his life.

At any airborne moment, you can press the triangle button to start soaring, building even more momentum with webbing that stretches between your arms. With newly added rooftop launch points and wind tunnels across the city, flying is so in. Now, in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, players alternate between both heroes with the press of a button. Peter’s trying to hold down a new teaching job at Miles’ high school, while Miles has his hands full with college applications.

Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be all about the Green Goblin and a returning Doc Ock. They are two of the greatest Spider-Man villains, but they’ll need a good supporting cast to back them up. Or else they’ll have to rely on characters like Big Wheel and Big Man. Not only did they come back, but they’re actively worse this time around. Meaning both elite-level world class hunters and alien monsters that two superpowered Spider-Men struggle against are done in by a reporter with a stun gun. Kraven the Hunter is the main villain for most of Spider-Man 2 and he isn’t anywhere near interesting or dynamic enough to be in that role.
