Astro’s Playroom Guide: Trophies

Throughout Astro’s Playroom, notably the Labo area and SSD Speedway, you’ll find boxes of Data with 8MB printed on them. This references the PlayStation 2 Memory Card, which had a capacity of 8 Megabytes. Along the top edge of the ceiling in the Labo area are architectural elements that are from the PSone, the slim version of the original PlayStation. The two blank slots reference the Memory Card ports, which have flaps on them.

It’s worth noting that you can play through the first four zones in any order you please. Their order in this guide is based on the artefacts, starting with the original PlayStation through to the PlayStation 4. If players opt to purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition of the recently announced Astro Bot, they will be able to get their hands on Astro’s Yharnam Tourist outfit as an “early” unlock. Specifically, they’re used in the PlayStation Labo area to be spent in the Gatcha minigame. If you do it correctly, the trapped bot will be freed from its cage, earning you the Grand Tourist trophy. Once you step on the last one, the trapped bot will appear in a cage and be dressed as a racer from Gran Turismo –you’ll also see an arrow showing a path on the cage. For example, you’ll get a frog suit controlled through motion controls and the R2 adaptive trigger. Running at a smooth 4K 60fps, Astro’s world may not be massive and require huge draw distances or populate the screen with hundreds of enemies, but it’s certainly pretty. Natural environments come together with PS5 internal parts and other pieces of hardware in a beautiful blend of the environmental with the technological. A grassy plain looks beautiful in 4K, only for the plants to be topped with PlayStation face button symbols rather than flowers. A rocky wall you need to climb has cliffs jutting out that… are actually recreations of trigger buttons. It is yet another sign of Team Asobi’s dedication to imbuing Astro with a sense of nostalgic fun when coming across the many ways they insert PlayStation references into the world.

Many Bronze trophies are tied to specific actions within the game’s levels. For example, “Twisting Metal” requires you to perform a specific action using the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers, while “Jumping Splash! Others are related to finding hidden collectibles or completing mini-games. Welcome to the delightful universe of Astro’s Playroom, a charming platformer pre-installed on every PlayStation 5. More than just a game, it’s a vibrant celebration of PlayStation’s rich history, cleverly showcasing the innovative features of the DualSense controller. As you explore its four distinct worlds, each themed around a key PS5 component, you’ll encounter a delightful array of robots and collectibles that pay homage to iconic PlayStation hardware and games.

Some hidden trophies may require completing specific tasks or challenges that are not immediately obvious. These tasks may involve interacting with certain characters, solving puzzles, or performing specific actions in a particular sequence. Unlocking these trophies requires a combination of skill, patience, and a willingness to think outside the box.

How To Import The Special Bots In Astro Bot

If you want to own all the collectibles in the game, you’ll need up to 6,000 coins to win prizes in the PlayStation Lab’s prize draw machine. If you’re having trouble getting those new messages to pop up, you might try waiting until you’ve completed the relatively short game’s main campaign. We had trouble getting the message to appear on a new save file but saw it immediately upon entering a completed one. Simply interact with each one, help the bots lift up the rock, and they will be added to your collection.

Interestingly, the disc in Astro’s Playroom has a blue back, which was used for PS2 games that were small enough to fit on a CD-ROM, the format used by the original PlayStation. Don’t worry, there’s no fall damage, so Astro can survive the landing just fine. Once you’re on the other side, tug the Wires on the wall to reveal the next sequence with moving blocks. OK365 onto the left-hand one, right it up, then Beam Glide to the block on the right.

When first arriving on Bot Beach off the slide, head right and look for the orange boat in the water with a bearded man and a small Bot in it. This references the 2018 God of War on PS4, also developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio. The composition of this easter egg is specifically mimicking the box art of the game.

The First Trophies

These feelings that I got from this controller are hard to describe in text but when you actually feel it for yourself, you’ll see just how much of a game changer the DualSense controller can be. It really makes me hope that as many developers as possible use the feature set inside this controller in their games. Before jumping into any of the locales (all of which are just a simple animation away, with no loading screens in between), the portal to each world features the type of terrain you’ll primarily encounter. They’re the most subtle uses of the DualSense, but it’s a nice way to set the scene. Ultimately, unlocking hidden trophies is a rewarding experience that enhances the overall enjoyment of Astro’s Playroom.

Playroom focused on the consoles and its devices, being more of a walk in memory lane through all the gaming years PlayStation has provided, even having the PS1’s tech demo as a boss. Plus, it’s hard to beat the nostalgia of hearing a PS1 and a PS2 starting up here. Coin collection in Astro Playroom is straightforward but requires attention to detail. Revisit levels after completing the story to find missed coins; Break objects like crates and ice blocks to reveal additional coins. Collecting coins contributes to trophy progress‚ so thorough exploration is key. Focus on areas with unique terrain to maximize your coin haul efficiently.
